Job Summary

The Senior Business Analyst brings strong analytical expertise to elicit the business needs of the client in order to determine solutions to complex business problems.  They will be responsible for leading and advising internal clients while eliciting and analyzing business requirements, creating functional specifications, testing and implementing appropriate solutions.  The Senior Business Analyst will consult and advise internal clients on appropriate use of technology for their business needs, provide expertise to others on the application of systems analysis methods, lead clients and team members on large enterprise or cross-functional technology projects through the business analysis and testing aspects of systems development life cycle or agile methods as appropriate, add value by applying skills and knowledge regardless of subject matter area.  The following job responsibilities will apply to this position:

  • Work to understand and interpret scope and high-level business requirements
  • Work with subject matter experts to identify business needs and translate them into complete functional and non-functional business and user requirements while challenging them to consider new perspectives and improve their current processes
  • Use modeling and prototyping techniques and tools to discover and clarify requirements and to refine the design
  • Facilitate business process improvements using analysis tools and methods
  • Facilitate and perform analysis to determine and/or design the best possible solution to meet those requirements
  • Write functional and non-functional requirements at a level that can be validated by the client and utilized by the technical project team
  • Manage all requirements documentation
  • Prepare test plans, test scripts, and complete testing to minimize defects prior to User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Document and track defects/issues and ensure timely resolution
  • Facilitate and lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to prove the solution meets the client’s needs
  • Assist the project manager and project team throughout the change control process
  • Assist project manager with implementation activities
  • Leverage expertise to lead technical projects through the systems development lifecycle activities on large projects

 


Qualifications

 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and subject matter experts
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve problems
  • Ability to identify and document solutions to complex business problems with accuracy
  • Extremely detail oriented and organized
  • An aptitude for learning and working with technology
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, multi-task across many assignments, and create deliverables with minimal direction
  • Ability to work in a team environment, but also self-motivated to produce results
  • Experience creating artifacts and documenting requirements for software projects
  • Expertise with group facilitation and requirements elicitation techniques (including, but not limited to, interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, shadowing, etc.)
  • Strong skills in requirements definition and documentation techniques (ensuring that business requirements, user requirements, and functional requirements are clear, concise, testable, traceable, etc.)
  • Solid experience with analysis techniques/methods (including, but not limited to, scope diagrams, process models, data models, use cases, user stories, storyboards, prototypes, state diagrams, CRUD matrix, etc.)
  • Experience with modeling, diagramming, and prototyping tools to generate analysis and design deliverables
  • Technical writing skills to define and document system specifications
  • Experience troubleshooting issues and solving problems
  • Expertise with a variety of testing techniques (quality assurance skills including, but not limited to, unit testing, requirements testing, integration testing, performance testing, usability testing, etc.)
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in technical or business area and 5 years of formal business analyst experience, or 8 years of equivalent work experience
  • Ability to work 10 to 25% overtime; peak project periods will require overtime
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed for project activities
  • Professional services/consulting industry experience is a plus
  • Prior experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodology
  • Prior experience with Agile methodology including authoring user stories and acceptance criteria, as well as, managing the backlog
  • Experience with the Microsoft Technology Stack (ASP.net, SQL Server, SharePoint 2013) is a plus
